The Friday Connection

We've mentioned the folks at Community Bicycle Rides before, but if you are interested in riding with a group of people (and you're a beginner) this group is a great resource. We haven't started riding with them yet, but we hope to soon. We are on their mailing list and I suggest you hop on it too. Give http://communitybicyclerides.org/ a gander.

The Friday Connection

Happy Friday, folks. It is that time again. Yep, it is The Friday Connection time!

This week we are highlighting Paul Dorn. He's a long time bike advocate and blogger. We recently started following his blog, however, the timing couldn't be better than National Bike Month for our discovery. This informative blog focuses on commuting. Check it out at http://bikecommutetips.blogspot.com/.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend!

The Friday Connection

Happy Friday!

Something we will be introducing on what we consider to be the best day of the week is The Friday Connection. Sounds exciting, eh? Each Friday we will highlight a website of interest. It might be funny, informative, or just a plain engaging site. This week we have two websites.

The first site proves how wonderfully small this world can be. We got a nice mention on slightdetour.blogspot.com/, proving the theory of six degrees of separation may not be off base. Marianne Love is a writer who lives in Sandpoint, Idaho—definitely check out her blog. You won't regret it. Thank you, Marianne!

The second website is http://www.kenkifer.com/bikepages/traffic/index.htm. This is a site packed with helpful tips of everything bicycling. From touring, to health and fitness, to bicycling advocacy--it is all here. This week, in honor of our Bike to Work Week, we are focusing on Bicycle Traffic Safety.

Thanks for checking out our links. We hope you like 'em. And if you have any feedback, send it our way!

Until next time . . .

The First Official Commute

In celebration of Bike to Work Week and to kick off our training schedule, STPE took the round trip to the office and back on Sunday. Fifteen miles in total, the ride proved the importance of a good seat, chamois shorts, and gloves--the beginner's essentials.

Today we will venture the 7.5 miles to work on bicycle. What a great way to spend a morning, right?

REI is also hosting another great class on commuting this evening, which we will be reporting back from.

Happy peddling!

Ride for Health and Meet an Olympian

Ever wanted to ride with a professional athlete? How about an Olympic gold medalist? Well, now you have your chance! The Blue Cruise of Idaho is putting on their annual fun ride for health. This year they have partnered with Idaho's very own gold medalist, Kristin Armstrong, who won in the women's road time trial competition in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Kristin will ride in each of the four Idaho rides. She will also be delivering a motivational speech and signing autographs during the events. And that's not all! Each event will have a community wellness fair and a bike rodeo.

The STP Experiment learned about this event from a friend who has participated in the past. She said it was a blast and and plans on riding again this year.
